Renault’s F1 Team To Be Rebranded Alpine In 2021

French car-maker Renault will rebrand its Formula One team for the start of the 2021 season in a bid to promote its Alpine brand.

The team’s cars will sport a predominantly blue livery as part of the marketing of Alpine, a small sports car manufacturer which Renault acquired in 1973.

Renault F1 team principal Cyril Abiteboul said the rebrand “comes at a key moment in the trajectory of the team and the sport”, pointing to the imposition of a budget cap in Formula One next year and the shake-up of the technical regulations in 2022.

“The new regulatory and financial framework will establish the conditions for a fairer motor sport in its redistribution of revenues – simpler and progressive in its governance.

“Alpine has its place in Formula 1 and can challenge for victory,” Abiteboul added.

Meanwhile, Renault CEO Luca de Meo described Alpine as “a symbol of French excellence” and said he is “confident it could be a very good story.”

The Alpine Formula One team will continue to be based on the existing infrastructure and personnel of the modern-day Renault F1 team.

On paper, Renault will revert to only being a Formula One engine manufacturer.

Alpine will be their only customer, with Mclaren switching to the Mercedes power unit next year.
