Ineos Is Still Set To Acquire Mercedes F1 Team, But Wolff Might Stay – Jordan

Earlier this month, F1 pundit and former team owner Eddie Jordan claimed that Ineos was poised to purchase the Mercedes F1 team .

Specifically, he said they are looking to purchase a 70-percent stake in the Mercedes Formula One team for circa £700 million and suggested that team principal Toto Wolff will depart the Brackley-based racing outfit following the takeover.

Now, Jordan has said he remains certain that Ineos will indeed buy a stake in the team, but he’s not sure if Wolff will leave Mercedes.

“The only thing I was really sure of is that Ineos will buy the team,” Jordan said.

Continuing, he said he believes it’s time for Wolff to leave the Mercedes F1 team after several “sensational” years.

“He’s been sensational. But it’s time for him to quit. He has already won everything. And he’s created [a] myth around Lewis Hamilton and the team.

“You have to remember in life that there are good times to go and very bad times. And for Toto, that very good moment is now.

“If I were his advisor, I would say: ‘Get out of there, please Toto. Take the money that’s on the table. You won’t get it that good.'”

When asked about the rumoured takeover following the Tuscan Grand Prix, Wolff said the story is “made up” and insisted that Daimler, Mercedes’ parent company, has no intention of selling its Formula One team.

“People pick up bits and pieces and construct a story around it. Daimler has no intent in giving up the team and Ineos has no interest in buying a majority of the team and calling it like this. I have no reason to depart from my shareholding,” Wolff said.

“So [there are] plenty of things that are made up. The future of the team is absolutely clear. It’s the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 team and nothing is going to change that.”
