Sebastian Vettel Admits His Love Affair With Ferrari Is Over

Sebastian Vettel’s journey with Ferrari is nearing its end, with him set to leave the Scuderia in just over a month’s time.



2020 has arguably been Vettel’s most difficult season in Formula One, with him struggling to get on top of the Ferrari SF1000 and relations with the team evidently going south.

Speaking to Germany’s Die Zeit newspaper, Vettel has admitted that this season has been “very difficult” but insists that he remains motivated despite his “love affair” with Ferrari reaching its conclusion.



“This year’s season was very difficult and I admit that I even had doubts about my own abilities.



“I haven’t gotten anywhere this season and relations with the team are not the easiest either. The love affair is over but I am still motivated,” Vettel added.



The four-time World Champion is clearly excited about joining Aston Martin Racing in 2021 and the challenges of racing with a midfield team that appears to be on an upwards trajectory.



“I am still expecting a lot from the remaining races but I think the new project with Aston Martin opens up a lot of possibilities.



“We will not be able to achieve success quickly, but I’m sure it will be a completely different mood and a new goal – to help the team progress.”



As for when he plans to hang up his racing gloves, Vettel said he has at least a few more years left in Formula One but isn’t looking to replicate drivers like Kimi Raikkonen who have continued racing into their 40s.



“I’m 33 now, I’ll be on the track for another three years, and I really don’t want to be racing at 40.



“So if you really assess it then I have from three to seven years left in Formula 1,” he said.
