‘There’s More To Life Than Racing’: Lewis Hamilton’s Father On 1-Year Extension

Earlier this week, the Mercedes F1 Team  finally announced  it had finalised a new deal with Sir  Lewis Hamilton  which will see them continue to race together this upcoming season.

The fact that they only agreed a one-year extension raised eyebrows, with some suggesting that the Brit wants to break Michael Schumacher’s record of seven World Champions before retiring at the end of 2021.

However, his father, Anthony Hamilton, has dismissed this and emphasised that there is simply “more to life than racing” for his son.

“They’ve [Hamilton and Mercedes] had a long relationship together,” Anthony Hamilton told  talkSPORT .

“I think loyalty is quite important in this world nowadays, so it’s nice to see them coming together for another year.

“I don’t think the record is the target… there’s a realisation that obviously he’s getting older and wants to do other things in life.

“There’s more to life than racing, but for now he’s happy to do another year,” he added.

On Thursday, a Mercedes insider told Formula1News.co.uk he feels Sir Hamilton was mistreated by some F1 fans, pundits and the media.

“I think many people actually owe Lewis an apology for questioning him and his intentions,” the Mercedes insider told this publication.

“I’m sure he wasn’t bothered by it and he’s more focused than ever on winning, but I think it was quite malicious in some cases,” he added.
