Hamilton Reveals If He’s Feeling ‘Any Pressure’ After Losing Championship Lead To Verstappen

Sir Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen have been locked in a battle for this year’s Championship from the very start of the 2021 season in Bahrain.

The Dutchman goes into next weekend’s US Grand Prix with a six-point lead over the seven-time World Champion, after finishing P2 last time out in Turkey while Hamilton finished fifth.

With just six rounds of the 2021 season remaining, Hamilton has insisted that he isn’t feeling “any pressure” despite him currently trailing Verstappen in the standings .

“I don’t feel any pressure, I feel very chilled,” the Briton said.

“I don’t like losing points but that’s the way it is. I did everything I could this weekend.”

Despite being fastest in qualifying at Istanbul, Hamilton started the race from P11 due to him having to serve a 10-place grid drop for using an additional internal combustion engine (ICE.)

Asked if he’s worried about the risk of him having to run a new power unit later this season and therefore suffering another grid penalty, Hamilton said: “I don’t really give any energy to it, it’s not my job to worry about that stuff.

“I let the guys focus on that, my engine’s in good condition, my first engine I think did six races, we still have engine two and I think engine three is still there.

“As far as I’m aware hopefully I don’t have to but I can’t predict what’s up ahead,” he concluded.
