Seidl Calls For Respect After Red Bull Boss Receives FIA Warning

Andreas Seidl, the team principal of the McLaren Formula 1 Team , has called for respect after Red Bull team boss Christian Horner received a warning from the FIA for criticising a marshal in Qatar.

Horner essentially blamed the marshal for Max Verstappen picking up a five-place grid penalty, as he was adjudged to have ignored double waved yellow flags in qualifying.

The Red Bull boss subsequently issued a public apology for his remarks. Seidl has said he can’t imagine himself – or anyone else at McLaren – ending up in a similar position in the future, even in the heat of a Championship battle.

“If you watch everything which is ongoing at the moment, it is clear, obviously, that there’s a lot at stake,” the McLaren team principal said, commenting on the Championship fight between Mercedes and Red Bull.

“It’s different to, say, the battles that we are in further back.

“Obviously, it is great to a certain degree for the fans, for the show – in the end it should be entertainment as well.

“But some of the comments we’ve seen in recent weeks, it’s definitely not something I could imagine would come from us in such a situation,” the German added, referencing Horner’s remark.

Continuing, Seidl stressed the importance of having respect “for your competitors, for the FIA, for Formula 1” whether the team is fighting for grand prix wins or is a backmarker.

He added: “We are in this together, and it is important that there is respect for the volunteers who help us, in the end, to put [on] these race weekends.”
