Mick Schumacher in straight fight with Nico Hulkenberg for Haas seat

Mick Schumacher is reportedly now only facing competition from Nico Hulkenberg for the remaining Haas seat next year.

Schumacher came into the season having achieved a best finish of P13 in his rookie season with a Haas team who had put all of their focus on 2022.

He was joined by Kevin Magnussen after Nikita Mazepin was dismissed amid Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and the Dane has scored points five times so far this season.

Two of those arrived in the first two rounds of the season in Bahrain and Jeddah, but it took Schumacher until the 10 th round of the season to score his first championship points.

The young German finished eighth in Silverstone, then sixth in Austria, and his general performances since the Canadian Grand Prix have been far removed from his struggles at the start of the year.

At the Singapore Grand Prix this weekend, the 23-year-old qualified 13 th , and spent much of the evening just outside the points on Sunday.

He got caught up in contact with Mercedes’ George Russell towards the end of the race, giving them both a puncture, and he came home 13 th  of the 14 runners.

He was out-qualified for the 13 th  time in 2022 this weekend, but his overall performance through the weekend was another consistent and solid one.

However, team principal, Guenther Steiner, is perhaps not seeing it that way, as he is still yet to sign Schumacher on for another season.

Daniel Ricciardo is not thought to be considering a drive with the American side next year, leaving Hulkenberg, who has made five substitute appearances with Aston Martin since he left Renault at the end of 2019.

The German had previously been considered by Williams to replace Nicholas Latifi, but Formula1News.co.uk understands that the British side are no longer interested in re-signing him.
