World RX - Nittis bounces back as Bakkerud ends day 1 on top

Sport news Latvia’s Reinis Nitiss made a stunning recovery from his Q1 roll at the Swecon World RX of Sweden, round six of the FIA World Rallycross Championship, to set the quickest time in Q2 on a drying track.
It was Fastest First in Q2, which, because of heavy rain, hampered the top five from Q1 most. Monster Energy RX Cartel’s Andreas Bakkerud repeated his race-winning performance from Q1 in Q2 race 1, but his time was only good enough for 12th overall at the end of the session, as the track dried progressively with each race.
But, after the dramatic Q1 session and the mixed times from Q2 because of the drying track, Bakkerud takes TQ (top qualifier) at the circuit where he won in 2016. 
The GRX team repaired Nitiss’ Hyundai in time for Q2 and he won the last race of the session and with it took an emotional quickest time. In the last lap GC Kompetition’s Guerlain Chicherit pushed Nitiss hard for the win and was P2 in Q2. The results, with other drivers losing ground due to running in wetter earlier races, lift Nitiss and Chicherit to P5 and P6 in the Intermediate Classification respectively.
GCK’s Anton Marklund won Q2 race 3 and took the fifth quickest time to lift him to P2 on day two at Holjes RX, as ESmotorsports Labas-GAS’ Kevin Abbring led Team Hansen MJP’s Timmy Hansen to the finish of Q2 race 4, was third quickest and is now P3 overall.
At his home round the season in Olsbergs MSE’s updated Ford Fiesta, 2016 World RX of Germany winner Kevin Eriksson is P4. His team mate Sebastian Eriksson had two spins in the wet conditions in Q2 but is P7. Denmark’s Ulrik Linnemann was seventh quickest in Q2 on the debut for the OMSE Honda Civic Supercar, and both Pailler Competition drivers on their Holjes debut – Fabien and Jonathan Pailler – were inside the top 12 with their Peugeot 208s. Fabien is inside the overall semi-final places in P12, but World RX Drivers’ Championship leader Timmy Hansen is down in P16 after Q2.
FIA European Rallycross Championship for Supercar leader Robin Larsson was quickest in Q1 and Q3 to be TQ in front of main title rival Thomas Bryntesson. Germany’s Rene Munnich is P3, with second quickest time in Q3.
In the RX2 International Series, Finland’s Jesse Kallio is TQ as Sweden’s Oliver Eriksson was given a penalty in Q3 for contact and is P2 after Q3. Jamaica’s Fraser McConnell is P3 ahead of Q4 tomorrow morning.
In Euro RX Super1600, Norway’s Marius Bermingrud and Hungary’s Gergely Marton were quickest in Q3 and Q4 but it is Russia’s Aydar Nuriev – who leads the Championship – who is TQ ahead of the semi-finals, with Egor Sanin in Q2.
