FIA reveals entry fee for F1 team application

It has been announced by the FIA that they are officially accepting applications for potential new Formula 1 teams, with there being space for two new teams to join the grid from 2025; however, in order to apply, any prospective side must pay £264,000.



With that in mind, the time is seemingly now for Andretti-Cadillac to officially submit their application of intent to join the grid in the near future, with FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem having already given his public support to the Americans.



The process to decide whether an outfit is suitable to join the grid or not is a rigorous one, with a business plan also having to be submitted, as is any previous experience of competing in motorsport, whether that’s the team itself or key employees.



As well as this, the governing body will conduct a “fit and proper persons” test for anybody in a managerial position of a potential new side, whilst a team’s integrity will also be considered and taken into account.

Entrant’s will also have to present an outlined plan on diversity as well as how they’ll achieve net carbon zero status by 2030, something the sport is targeting.



Remarkably, this criteria is just a starting point, with more to come further down the line.



The deadline to apply for a spot on the grid is April 30, with a decision set to be made by the FIA come June 30, two months after the application deadline.



It means that the world will know which teams are joining the sport in the near future ahead of this season’s Austrian Grand Prix, which takes place at the start of July.



With that in mind, Ben Sulayem announced that as of now, the governing body is officially open to applications to join the pinnacle of motorsport.

“FIA believes the conditions are right for interested parties, which meet the selection criteria, to express a formal interest in entering the Championship,” Ben Sulayem said.



“For the first time ever, as part of the selection conditions, we are requesting that candidates set out how they would meet the FIA’s sustainability benchmarks and how they would make a positive societal impact through sport.



“The process is a logical extension of the positive acceptance of the FIA’s 2026 F1 Power Unit Regulations from engine manufacturers which has attracted Audi to Formula One and created interest among other potential entrants.”
