Nico Rosberg makes claim about Angela Cullen and Lewis Hamilton ending relationship

Former World Champion Nico Rosberg has claimed the departure of Lewis Hamilton’s long-time trainer Angela Cullen could “make things even worse” for the Mercedes driver, after a tough start to the season has left him in fifth place in the championship standings.



“I think that probably makes things even worse because even though the split apparently was amicable, you know, Angela was a real friend I think also to him,” Rosberg told Sky Sports F1.



“I think probably that’s another challenge and difficulty that he has to deal with and get used to.”



Hamilton and Cullen announced that they had amicably parted ways ahead of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.

With Cullen having been described as one of Hamilton’s “closest friends,” the announcement raised eyebrows in the paddock.



“I think most of us were very surprised by that because he did make quite a lot of emphasis on how useful she had been and how good she’d been for him to get his mind in the right place, so a bit of a surprise to see them splitting up,” ex-World Champion and Sky Sports presenter Damon Hill added.



With questions swirling around the situation, Hamilton simply stressed that they remain on good terms.



“She’s moving on to a different phase in her life. We’re still super-close and we have been texting every day. She’s massively supportive and I’m massively supportive of her,” Hamilton told reporters.

Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff explained that “for some time now Lewis was looking for a change.”



Continuing, he said: “Angela was a part of the gang for a long time. Angela will always be a cheerleader of the team.



“She is the only one who has a louder voice than a starting car. But if this is what [Hamilton] decides, we will always absolutely support him whatever direction he wants to take,” Wolff added.
