Lewis Hamilton drops huge Red Bull claim

When the regulations underwent a major change ahead of the 2022 season, the teams were sent back to the drawing board to think of some brand new and inventive concepts.

The sidepods were a major point of debate, with Mercedes going for a zero sidepod approach while Red Bull went for a more detailed and pronounced design.

As it turned out, Red Bull got their concept for the RB18 spot on and boasted the fastest car on the grid for the majority of the season, allowing them to cruise to both championship titles.

This gave Red Bull a huge advantage heading into the 2023 season as well, as the team simply had to evolve their concept rather than fix issues and design a whole new car.

Teams like Mercedes have still not figured out the best design pathway for their cars and therefore Red Bull are starting to pull away at the front already, scoring one-two finishes in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.

The RB19 looks ridiculously quick compared to the rest of the cars on the grid and Lewis Hamilton has boldly claimed that it is the fastest car that he has ever seen, even quicker than some of his dominant Mercedes cars of the past.

“I have definitely never seen a car so fast,” he said.

“When we were fast, we were not that fast. That is the fastest car I have seen, especially compared to the rest.

“I don’t know how but he [Max Verstappen] came past me with some serious speed and I didn’t even bother to block him because there was a massive speed difference.

“Everyone wants to see a close battle, but it is the way it is. It is not my problem, it is not my fault.”

The RB19 also manages to get the most out of its DRS system, allowing Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez to breeze past their opponents.

With Red Bull looking to dominate 2023, it will not be long until the likes of Mercedes start to adopt their design, just like Aston Martin have managed to do so successfully.
