AlphaTauri set for big changes as Red Bull mulls its future

As one of only two teams to have not scored any points, AlphaTauri has found itself in ninth position in the Constructors’ Championship, trailing far behind Red Bull’s dominant lead.



The disappointing start to the 2023 season hints that AlphaTauri might be on course to finish in the bottom two of the Constructors’ Standings for a second consecutive season.



With Red Bull’s sister team struggling, there has been talk by their management that changes could be afoot at the outfit.



At the end of the 2019 season, the team changed its name from Scuderia Toro Rosso to AlphaTauri – the name of Red Bull’s fashion line affiliate.

With talk about whether to sell AlphaTauri or relocate it from Italy to England, Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko has told reporters that the team is weighing changing their name again.



“It is something we are reconsidering,” Marko told RacingNews365.



“It is logical too. The branding of AlphaTauri has been scaled back somewhat because only in a few countries where we race AlphaTauri is actually sold. It is about three to four countries only.”



“The task is simple. More money must be brought in and results improved,” he added.



The speculation over AlphaTauri’s future comes after Oliver Mintzlaff succeed Dietrich Mateschitz as Red Bull’s top boss following the latter’s death last year.

While Yuki Tsunoda has come close to points in the opening two races of the season, finishing a close 11 th  in both, new signing Nyck de Vries has failed to impress, finishing 14 th  in back-to-back races. 



Amid all the rumours, AlphaTauri’s long-time team principal, Franz Tost, has revealed when he plans to step away from the sport.



67-year-old Tost, who has been with the team since 2005, has stated he will not be on the pit wall when he turns 70, instead hoping to spend more time with his family.
