Lewis Hamilton warned he wouldn’t perform better than Charles Leclerc

Lewis Hamilton is at the centre of speculation in the drivers’ market, as negotiations remain ongoing with Mercedes about his future at the eight time Constructors’ champions.



Hamilton is free to leave Mercedes at the end of the season, with his contract expiring and no extension currently in place. 



If Hamilton were to retire or move away from Mercedes, it would undoubtedly trigger a string of changes on the grid.



Former Formula 1 team manager Peter Windsor has claimed that, despite rumours linking Hamilton to Ferrari, a move is unlikely to happen while the Italian team is underperforming.

Ferrari, like Mercedes, has struggled for pace this season, as Red Bull have built up a runaway lead over their rivals following a string of victories and 1-2 finishes.



Ferrari’s problems are evident in Charles Leclerc’s performance on track, as the Monegasque has only suffered two DNFs this season and multiple crashes during the Miami Grand Prix.



Windsor believes that, even with his skill, if Hamilton were to move to the team, he wouldn’t fare any better than Leclerc.

“I think he will find it as difficult as Charles finds it,” Windsor said on YouTube . 



“Of course, if Lewis went to Ferrari, there will be a lot of ‘Here comes the great Lewis’ or ‘Lewis coming to Maranello’ and Lewis, who keeps his racing and life pretty simple would say, ‘You know, give me the race car and let [me] do some driving’.



“But I think he would have the same problems. I don’t think he will have any solution to Charles’s problem nor Max for that matter.”
