Max Verstappen reveals which circuit he wants to return to from 2020 season

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen has revealed that he would like Formula 1 to return to Tuscany for another race after the venue was used for a one-off event in the Covid-hit 2020 season.



The Mugello Circuit played host to the race in Florence, with the event bearing an important historical context for Formula 1, as it was the 1000 th  Grand Prix for Scuderia Ferrari.



Verstappen’s wish to return to the circuit might be down to his competitive nature, as the Dutchman has unfinished business at the track, being one of eight cars to DNF during the Grand Prix.



Despite qualifying in P3, Verstappen’s race ended on lap one after the Dutchman, Pierre Gasly, Kimi Raikkonen and Romain Grosjean all came together.

Verstappen’s car was beached in the gravel trap, while Gasly had to retire due to damage he sustained.



Should Formula 1 expand the calendar further or make changes to their current race schedule in Italy, Verstappen would be keen to see Mugello return.



“Well, bring Mugello back then,” Verstappen told Motorsport.com.



“Of course, I haven’t raced that much there yet, just two corners. But the circuit is really nice to drive on.”



Verstappen was also open to a race at Laguna Seca, a race track in central California, which currently hosts an IndyCar race.



The addition of Laguna Seca would play into Formula 1’s embrace of the US market, as the sport enjoys a growing fanbase across America.

“We can certainly do that, we are also driving in Monaco, right? There are some nice options in America, though,” he said.



“I also like Virginia, for example, although that track might be less in an F1 car and more something for a GT. Road America is also very nice, so there are a few tracks you can go to.



“Road America is of course reasonably fast for F1. But like any track that holds Formula 1 races, they would then obviously have to make certain adjustments to the track.”
