Carlos Sainz lambasts ‘amateur journalists’ and TikTok

Carlos Sainz was quick to slam “amateur” journalists this week ahead of the Monaco Grand Prix, following reports that the Spaniard was at risk of missing the sixth round of the 2023 Formula 1 season.



It was speculated on Tuesday evening whether Sainz would be unable to race at the Circuit de Monaco, with the Ferrari driver having been substituted during the annual Monaco charity football match.



The reasoning for the reports though, was because he was seen receiving treatment to his right thigh, which was later seen heavily bandaged.



Thankfully, he only suffered from bruising; however, there was some concern over his participation this weekend given just how bandaged his thigh was.

Despite the images and the initial concern, Sainz is absolutely fine for the event, with him having hit out at the media for saying he was “skipping the race”.



“There were people saying I was skipping the race,” Sainz said, as reported by Speedcafe.com.



“It’s a bit more now, with social media, TikTok. There’s more amateur journalism, people really trying to bring up some news to get some extra views and extra clickbait.



“Without any information, they’re trying to make a prediction of what’s going to happen on Sunday.



“But it’s just useless and unnecessary to create a headline that has no base or no information.”



Monaco has been a good venue for the 28-year-old in recent years, with him having finished second behind Sergio Perez last season.



In 2021, Sainz again finished second, with him having never finished behind Charles Leclerc at the Principality.



Sainz is targeting another strong performance at the iconic venue; however, he believes Red Bull are “again the team to beat” in what has been the story of the season so far.

“Monaco has always been good for us in the past years,” added the Spanish driver.



“We were very strong in ’21 with a relatively weak car, but we managed to put it on pole, so I do think we have a strong opportunity.



“At the same time, I also think Red Bull are favourites everywhere we go because they have no weaknesses, and so they are again the team to beat.”
