Revealed: Bernie Ecclestone’s net worth is over 10x Lewis Hamilton’s
Former Formula 1 supremo Bernie Eccleston has been named as one of the 100 th wealthiest people in the UK in the Sunday Times Rich List.
The 92-year-old businessman has a reported fortune of £2.498 billion following his time in charge of Formula 1, leaving him in 73 rd on the newspaper’s list.
Having stated as driver Stuart Lewis Evans’ manager, Ecclestone became a team owner, head of the Formula One Constructor Association (FOCA) and then Formula One Management (FOM).
That last role brought him 50% of Formula 1’s revenue, something that saw him embark on a mission to make the sport increasingly profitable, before he sold his ownership stake to Liberty Media in 2016 for £6.4 billion.

While Ecclestone guided Formula 1 to commercial success during his leadership, the sport has gone from strength to strength in recent years, expanding into the US market.
Ecclestone’s wife Slavia made the Rich List herself, securing 234 th on the list with her personal fortune of £730 million.
Alongside Eccleston on the list was Sir Jim Ratcliffe, owner of INEOS, which holds a one-third share of the Mercedes Formula 1 team.

Ratcliffe took the second spot on the list, with his personal wealth of £29.688 billion, an increase of £23.613 billion from the previous year, moving him from 27 th to his current position.
Alongside his position as owner of INEOS, Ratcliffe owns several other sporting outfits including Nice football club and the former Team Sky Cycling franchise.
Ratcliffe is also reportedly in the process of attempting to purchase Manchester United, as the Glazer family look to find a new owner.
