Carlos Sainz fired number 1 driver warning at Ferrari

The Singapore Grand Prix, known for its unpredictability and challenging circuit, witnessed outstanding performances, according to former Formula 1 driver Timo Glock.

Among the notable standouts were Carlos Sainz, who secured a commanding victory for Ferrari at the Marina Bay Street Circuit, and the young talent Liam Lawson, participating in only his third Grand Prix, who clinched his first-ever points finish.

Glock, currently an analyst for Sky Sports, has high expectations for Lawson’s future in Formula 1.

Carlos Sainz’s victory earned him effusive praise from Timo Glock.

The Spaniard’s clever and tactical driving tactics during the race were particularly commended.

Notably, Sainz’s triumph marked Ferrari’s first victory of the 2023 season, but Glock emphasised that this victory doesn’t signify Sainz replacing Charles Leclerc as the team’s frontrunner.

In Glock’s view, there is no clear No. 1 driver at Ferrari, and both Sainz and Leclerc are equal contenders.

He stated, “That does not mean by a long shot that he has relieved Charles Leclerc [as front-runner].

“At Ferrari, there is no clear No 1. Both drivers are equal, in my opinion.”

Another standout at the Singapore Grand Prix was the rookie Liam Lawson, currently driving for AlphaTauri.

Lawson’s impressive debut season garnered recognition from Timo Glock, who believes that the young driver has a promising future in Formula 1.

Lawson’s journey into Formula 1 was expedited after Daniel Ricciardo suffered a hand injury at Zandvoort, leading to Lawson’s unexpected inclusion in the AlphaTauri team.

Glock highlighted Lawson’s achievements in Singapore, where he made it into Q3, showcased speed surpassing even Max Verstappen, and outperformed his teammate Yuki Tsunoda.

Notably, Lawson secured points in a race on a track he had never experienced before.

Glock commended the New Zealander’s adaptability and performance under challenging circumstances.

Considering Lawson’s potential, Glock offered his advice on the young driver’s future.

He recommended that Lawson spend another year at AlphaTauri before considering a move to Red Bull Racing.

Glock cautioned against rushing Lawson’s progression, as pairing him directly with Max Verstappen could pose challenges.

Glock cited previous instances where young drivers faced difficulties when promoted too quickly within the Red Bull Racing program.
