Sergio Perez Embraces Challenge of Racing Alongside Max Verstappen

Sergio Perez recently expressed that the challenge of racing alongside Max Verstappen has reinforced his desire to stay with Red Bull.



This sentiment follows the announcement of his new contract with the team.



Ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix, it was revealed that the Mexican driver had signed a two-year extension, which is effectively a 1+1 deal.



This contract secures Perez’s position with Red Bull for 2025 and allows the team an option to keep him for 2026.

Perez had several offers from other teams before signing the extension, but his primary goal was to remain with Red Bull.



“I had a few options outside this team, but my aspiration was to continue with this team,” Perez told RACER.



“I am very happy. I love working with this group of mechanics and engineers.



“Everyone works really hard and gives their all.”



“I am super happy to continue my journey with this team and I am extremely grateful for the opportunity that has been given to me.



“I would really like to end my career with this team,” he added.



A significant factor in Perez’s decision to stay was the opportunity to continue being Verstappen’s teammate.



The reigning world champion has been nearly unbeatable and consistently pushes Perez to his limits.



Despite the difficulty, Perez values this challenge, which has contributed to his decision to remain with Red Bull.



“I love having that challenge of being Max’s teammate.



“That has made me want to keep going, precisely because it is such a challenge.



“It makes you keep learning and keep growing,” Perez said.



He acknowledged the mental demands of partnering with Verstappen, noting, “You’ve also seen with other drivers how tough it is. Red Bull is different from any other team in that respect.



“Mentally it takes everything out of you, and you also have to be very strong in your shoes to be able to deal with the pressure within this team.”



Perez recognizes that having a teammate like Verstappen is a unique challenge he wouldn’t find elsewhere.

He strives to improve himself by leveraging Verstappen’s high performance level.



“From the outside there is already a lot going on and inside the team you are dealing with someone who sets the tone by performing at such a high level,” he explained.



“He is one with the car. If you go to another team with a different teammate you are on it differently, but this is the challenge I just love.”
