Sergio Perez Slams Red Bull For Not ‘Protecting’ Him
Sergio Perez has openly criticised Red Bull for failing to back him during a tense 2024 season, saying the team allowed speculation to escalate despite having a contract in place.
Red Bull recently confirmed that Liam Lawson would replace Perez for 2025.
Speaking on the podcast Desde el Paddock, Perez revealed, “I had a signed contract in Monaco, but from the next race onwards, everyone was talking about my future.”
He continued, “It would have been easy for the team to protect me… But that wasn’t the case.”
According to Perez, the relentless focus on his status created pressure that disrupted his side of the garage.
Performance Decline and Future Opportunities
Although Perez had five race wins and played a vital role supporting Max Verstappen, his performance slipped as the 2024 season progressed.
Mistakes in qualifying and races saw him fall to eighth in the standings, prompting Red Bull’s decision to part ways.
Red Bull still struggles with its second seat, with neither Lawson nor Tsunoda delivering consistent results in 2025.
Perez is now exploring options for a return to F1 and has been linked with Cadillac ahead of their 2026 debut.
His experience and sponsorship backing from companies like KitKat and Heineken make him a strong contender for new teams.
However, he will face competition from other experienced drivers like Valtteri Bottas and Mick Schumacher.
