Esteban Ocon Reveals If He’s Happy to Watch Alpine Struggle After Haas Switch
After leaving Alpine in 2024, Esteban Ocon insists he takes no pleasure in the Formula 1 team’s current struggles.
Ocon joined Alpine in 2020 and achieved a career milestone by winning the 2021 Hungarian Grand Prix.
Tensions with teammate Pierre Gasly, a longtime rival, culminated in a collision during the Monaco Grand Prix last season.
This incident fueled speculation about Ocon’s future with the team, and in July, Alpine confirmed he wouldn’t return for 2025.
Alpine Decline Follows Ocon’s Departure
Ocon didn’t participate in the final race of the season, opting instead to begin testing with his new team, Haas.
While Alpine has slipped to the bottom of the Constructors’ standings this season, Ocon has found success in the midfield with Haas.
Still, he says he harbors no ill will.
“You never smile to see someone struggling,” he told reporters.
He added, “I took my decision, it was clear that we were not aiming for the same things with the team.”
Ocon emphasized the need for a fresh challenge, stating that differing visions made it impossible to progress together.
“We didn’t agree on so many things,” he said.
Though the Alpine chapter didn’t close on the best terms, Ocon appears focused on a new start and remains respectful of his former team’s efforts.
