Amongst The F1 Audi Excitement, Don’t Forget Cadillac’s Own Race Entry
The 2025 Formula 1 calendar has certainly thrown up some unexpected excitement at this time of asking, and fans have been glued to developments both on the track and off it. Red Bull’s accepted dominance seems to have crumbled with a number of Christian Horner related issues grabbing the headlines and he has recently been jettisoned by the race team, and that may or may not explain Max Verstappen’s own fall from is self imposed grace, and McLaren duo Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris have been absolutely commanding so far this campaign. Whilst 2025 will no doubt continue to grip the attentions of race fans around the world, and we will without question see further twists and turns in the Grand Prix battles that like ahead, but as we enter the month of August there will be many who are looking ahead to 2026, the small expansion that will take place and the arrival of car giants Audi to the standings. The German automotive manufacturer have more than stolen the headlines following their announcement that they would co-opt Sauber moving forward, but it should also not be forgotten that United States car giant Cadillac are also set to enter next year. With two new entries, the odds on the sportsbooks are going to explode in 2026 and there will be a multitude of sites out there who ordinarily provide betting tips for multiple sports who will now spend at least a couple of months focusing on F1 and what Audi and Cadillac may achieve in their debut years. General Motors announced their intention back in 2023, but their route in was not plain sailing and the FIA only latterly approved their bid once they committed to the manufacture of F1 engines. In the meantime their investment continued unabated and they have already established bases in Indiana, Michigan, and a home closer to the European circuits at Silverstone, UK. With permission now in, Cadillac will become F1’s first new Constructor since Haas joined the party back in 2016 – and their commitment cannot be questioned as they have already paid an expansion fee of $450 million to secure their entry, and that is actually double what was initially demanded. With the 2026 race calendar seeing 11 teams line up on the grid, whilst Cadillac’s focus so far has been on off track matters, the technology and the infrastructure required to compete and deal with the demands that will now be placed on them, the second American side in the F1 game have now turned their attentions to who will fill the two new driving seats that have been subsequently created. If reports in the media are to be believed, they will soon confirm that Sergio Perez will be the first drive signing to their new race team. Should this come to pass, it will be considered by many to be an inspired, albeit safe, choice.
The 35 year old Mexican talent already boasts 281 starts across his long career which began back in 2011, and although he has not had a place in F1 since Red Bull axed him last December, he still carries six wins to is name and has significant financial backing from Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim. It is believed that their tie in will be officially announced within the next couple of weeks, and should that happen, everyone will then turn their attentions to who takes the second spot that is available and then predictions on how Cadillac may perform in their debut season will be made. As it stands, the rumour mill has Finnish driver Valtteri Bottas as the firm favourite, and that would tally with wanting good experience to help them kick start their new journey.
