Nico Rosberg Warns Lando Norris Faces “Scary” Fight Against Oscar Piastri Ahead of 2025 Dutch GP

McLaren’s Lando Norris entered the 2025 Formula 1 season as one of the top contenders to finally capture his first world championship.

After coming close in 2024 but falling short against Max Verstappen, the Brit now faces what many consider his best chance yet to seize the crown.

Yet standing directly in his way is teammate Oscar Piastri, who leads the standings by just nine points after 14 rounds.

With the season at its halfway point, the competition inside the papaya garage is heating up.

Rosberg Backs Piastri’s Edge

Former world champion and current Sky F1 analyst Nico Rosberg believes the title race may not be as balanced as the points table suggests.

Speaking on The F1 Show , Rosberg highlighted how impressed he has been with Piastri’s development.

“Oscar is super strong,” Rosberg said.

“He’s surprised me because we all knew he was a great driver, but last year, Lando still had the edge.

This year, Oscar is just incredibly solid and strong and fast.”

Rosberg stressed that unlike last season, the Australian appears to have no glaring flaws.

“There’s no weaknesses there. What’s his weakness? There’s no more weaknesses, which is a bit scary for Lando because Lando does have weaknesses.”

Belgian GP Highlights the Divide

The most recent race in Belgium underscored Rosberg’s point.

Norris attempted several times to pass his teammate but made crucial mistakes in the process.

Piastri, in contrast, delivered a composed performance and secured another victory to strengthen his lead.

The outcome showcased the differing approaches of the two drivers: Norris with occasional overreach and Piastri with clinical precision.

McLaren Keeps Hands Off

Unlike last season when Norris received some informal backing in his duel with Verstappen, McLaren has made it clear in 2025 that there will be no team orders.

The team is allowing both drivers equal opportunity, ensuring the fight for the championship remains purely merit-based.

That policy, Rosberg suggested, adds more pressure to Norris.

“You can’t really say that Lando is a smidge quicker anymore,” he explained.

“Oscar has just been extremely quick always, and I see them kind of on a par.

The championship is going to be decided in Lando’s head.”

Mental Game the Decider

Rosberg believes that Norris’ battle will come down to his psychological resilience.

He noted that Norris has been actively working to shut out distractions.

“I know he’s working on it, starting to block out social media, media, he’s really making progress, all these things, which is really great,” Rosberg concluded.

The second half of the season is poised to determine not only which McLaren driver wins but also how Norris handles the mental demands of fighting his own teammate for a title.

For now, Piastri appears to hold the “scary” advantage in what could become one of the defining duels of modern Formula 1.
