Logan Sargeant Speaks Out After Landing New Drive
Logan Sargeant is preparing for his first races in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, but the American insists he is not making long-term plans just yet.
The 24-year-old will contest the final two rounds of the season with PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports in their LMP2 entry.
A New Chapter After F1
Sargeant, who started 36 Formula 1 races across 2023 and 2024, has not competed since leaving the grid.
He will make his IMSA debut at the six-hour Battle on the Bricks at Indianapolis before closing the season at Petit Le Mans.
Driving the No. 52 Oreca 07 Gibson, he will share the car with Benjamin Pedersen and Naveen Rao.
“This is a great opportunity,” Sargeant told reporters.
“I just want to get back in a car, really find my rhythm again, and deliver good results.”
Short-Term Focus
Sargeant made clear that his sights are set only on these two races, not on mapping out an extended sports car career.
“I think right now there’s really no long-term goal,” he explained.
“I’m really only looking at these next two races and then we’ll see what happens for next year.”
“That said, I’d be more than happy to have a long career in sports cars. That would be an exciting path forward for me.”
Feeling Ready to Compete
Sargeant admitted that performance in these races could influence his future but said he feels well-prepared.
“Performance always matters, at the end of the day,” he said.
“I don’t go into Indy feeling underprepared, I go into Indy feeling great, and that’s how I look at it.”
He added that the recent test sessions with the team gave him confidence heading into competition.
Looking Ahead
Sargeant would not be drawn on ambitions in top-tier prototype racing or factory-backed programs.
But he did highlight his admiration for endurance events like Le Mans and Daytona.
“I think they’re great races, especially Petit,” he said.
“It’s one that I’m really looking forward to at a track that I’ve really been excited to drive.”
Team Excited to Add Sargeant
PR1/Mathiasen team boss Bobby Oergel said the timing worked out perfectly to bring Sargeant onboard.
“Being able to bring Logan in to partake in the thing is absolutely fantastic,” Oergel said.
“It’s neat to have two, what I would call ‘gunslingers’ in the package.”
Oergel credited open discussions with Sargeant’s management for making the deal possible.
With his IMSA debut looming, Sargeant sees the stint as both a learning curve and a chance to prove himself again.
