Fernando Alonso Makes Huge Adrian Newey Claim Amid Aston Martin F1 Project

Fernando Alonso has voiced his admiration for Adrian Newey’s work since the famed designer joined Aston Martin earlier this year.

Newey, who departed Red Bull after almost two decades, has shifted his focus entirely to developing Aston Martin’s 2026 challenger, which will be built under the sport’s new technical regulations.

The Briton’s reputation in Formula 1 is unmatched, having designed cars that have collectively won 14 drivers’ titles and 12 constructors’ crowns.

Alonso Impressed by Newey’s Methods

Speaking on Aston Martin’s official YouTube channel, Alonso described his amazement at Newey’s approach.

“For sure, the best ever designer in the sport and no one probably will achieve the numbers that he has,” Alonso said. “The way he works explains some of the results that he had. He has an incredible way of seeing the car as one piece that works together, not single devices that provide performance. He can just anticipate the whole car in one piece.”

Alonso also praised Newey’s calm presence. “He seems in control of everything at all the time, a self-confidence that I probably never saw before. He’s not stressed about any other team or any other philosophy or any other design. He believes that his will be the best.”

Aston Martin Hoping for a Turnaround

Aston Martin have struggled in 2025, sitting in the lower half of the constructors’ standings. After a promising start to the previous regulations cycle, the team has since fallen away from the front-running pace.

The addition of Newey is seen as a statement of intent, with the hope that his expertise can elevate the team to title contention when the new regulations arrive. For Alonso, who is chasing his third world championship, the move represents a renewed chance at success.

Newey’s Unique Presence

When asked about how it feels having Newey in the garage, Alonso offered a revealing insight.

“Very safe,” he said. “He came to Monaco for the race. He was just in the garage. He’s not talking to many people, but at the same time, always thinking and touching the front wheel here, the suspension there. He’s, I think, an artist more than an engineer.”

Alonso’s admiration underlines the high expectations surrounding Newey’s work at Aston Martin. The Spaniard, one of the sport’s most experienced and decorated drivers, appears confident that Newey’s vision could help transform the team’s fortunes in the coming years.

While the 2025 season may be one of transition for the Silverstone-based squad, optimism is quietly growing that Aston Martin’s future could look very different once Newey’s influence is fully realized.
