Yuki Tsunoda Makes Daniel Ricciardo Revelation Amid Pressure From Liam Lawson

Japanese Formula 1 driver Yuki Tsunoda has described his former teammate Daniel Ricciardo as a “mentor” during an appearance on the Talking Bull podcast.

Initially, Tsunoda referred to the Australian as a “teacher” before changing it to “mentor” at the host’s suggestion.

The pair shared a garage at AlphaTauri — now RB — during parts of the 2023 season, the year Ricciardo made his return to the grid.

They continued as teammates through much of 2024 until the Singapore Grand Prix, when Ricciardo was replaced by Liam Lawson.

One-Word Descriptions of Other Teammates

Tsunoda also gave one-word answers to describe other drivers he has raced alongside.

For Max Verstappen, he chose “gin tonic,” recalling how the Dutchman introduced him to the cocktail and sparked his fondness for it.

Ricciardo Moves to Ford Ambassador Role

Although Ricciardo has officially stepped away from his Formula 1 career, he announced recently that he has joined Ford as an ambassador.

Ford will return to F1 in 2026 as a partner to Red Bull in its Powertrains project.

“I am going to be working closely with the Ford Racing team and specifically focus on the amazing Raptor brand and lifestyle that Raptor has become for many of Ford’s customers,” Ricciardo said on social media.

“I couldn’t be more excited for all the amazing drives ahead with Ford and for all the incredible projects Ford Racing has in its pipeline.

“From F1, to Dakar and from Le Mans to Bathurst, few companies have been at this for as long as you guys have. And from what I have seen, we have an incredible future ahead and I am so proud to be joining the team.”

Ricciardo’s new role positions him at the heart of Ford’s global motorsport efforts, spanning everything from Formula 1 to endurance racing.
