Liam Lawson Makes Admission About Red Bull Tensions Ahead of 2025 US GP

Liam Lawson has credited his early exposure to the intense environment of Red Bull’s driver programme as a key factor in preparing him for Formula 1.

Lawson joined the Red Bull junior programme in early 2019, navigating the junior formulae while simultaneously acting as a development driver.

The Red Bull system, overseen by Helmut Marko, is known for its high expectations and readiness to move on from drivers who fail to produce results quickly.

Lawson admits the constant scrutiny during his junior career was challenging but ultimately beneficial for his transition to F1.

“It’s something I’m very thankful for, to have been lucky enough to join so young [and] be exposed to that pressure and that environment from a young age,” Lawson told F1.com.

“It’s something that maybe other teams and other drivers don’t get.

“As much as at the time it was something I didn’t like, I came into F1 and realised that it was probably a silver lining that I appreciated a lot more once I was in it.”

Lawson was promoted to Red Bull at the start of the season but returned to the junior team, Racing Bulls, following a difficult start to the year.

Despite these ups and downs, Lawson recognises the pressure of F1 is relentless, with only 20 seats available and a high calibre of drivers competing for them.

“Obviously, I’m still under the gun, I’m still under pressure, and that won’t change,” he said.

“When you’re in it, it’s always tough, but I think it’s how it’ll always be.

“It’s how the sport is, it’s high-performance. There are so many great drivers and 20 seats at the moment. So it’s always going to be like that.”

Lawson’s experience in Red Bull’s junior system appears to have given him a foundation to handle the intensity and scrutiny of competing at the highest level of motorsport.

The combination of early pressure and high expectations may have accelerated his learning curve, equipping him with skills that many rookies only develop after years in F1.

With the season continuing, Lawson’s focus remains on improving his results and demonstrating his value within the Red Bull ecosystem.
