A brief meeting between Ferrari deputy team principal Jerome D’Ambrosio and Carlos Sainz’s manager Carlos Onoro during the Qatar Grand Prix weekend has sparked speculation about the long-term driver plans of the Italian team.



The pair were photographed sitting together outside Ferrari’s hospitality area, prompting questions from fans about whether the conversation was a casual catch-up or something more meaningful.



The image circulated widely on social media shortly after being shared by an attendee in the paddock.



D’Ambrosio, who joined Ferrari in late 2024 after holding senior roles at Mercedes, was seen greeting Onoro before the two engaged in conversation at a small outdoor table.



Their meeting took place as Ferrari continues to endure a difficult season under the leadership of Lewis Hamilton, who has yet to secure a podium since switching from Mercedes at the start of the year.



Background: D’Ambrosio’s Move to Ferrari and Onoro’s Role



Jerome D’Ambrosio left Mercedes to join Ferrari in October 2024, taking on responsibilities as deputy team principal and head of the Ferrari Driver Academy.



His arrival coincided with structural changes at Maranello as the team prepared for the transition from Carlos Sainz to Lewis Hamilton for the 2025 season.



Onoro, who manages Sainz’s career and is his cousin, has significant influence over the Williams driver’s commercial and sporting arrangements.



He oversees everything from sponsorship to contract matters and has remained close to Ferrari personnel following Sainz’s departure from the team.



Sainz left Ferrari at the end of last season after Hamilton was signed as his replacement, bringing an end to his four-year spell.



Since moving to Williams, Sainz has enjoyed renewed momentum, securing his first podium of the season at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix — notably before Hamilton has managed one with Ferrari.



Is a Ferrari Reunion Possible?



The sighting of Onoro with D’Ambrosio immediately triggered speculation among fans questioning whether Sainz could one day return to the Scuderia.



Some interpreted the meeting as a sign that Ferrari might be considering adjustments to its future driver lineup, particularly after Hamilton’s difficult start to his Ferrari tenure.



Ferrari’s performance in Qatar added further fuel to the discussion.

Staying connected with senior personnel from his former team is part of maintaining productive relationships, especially in a sport as fluid and political as Formula 1.



Why the Meeting Likely Means Little



While fans have drawn dramatic conclusions, there is no evidence the meeting in Qatar was anything more than a friendly conversation.



D’Ambrosio and Onoro worked together at Ferrari during Sainz’s final months at the team, and it is reasonable that they would catch up when paths cross at a Grand Prix venue.



For now, Ferrari appears focused on solving its performance problems while Hamilton works to adapt to the car.

Given current circumstances — and Ferrari’s issues — it would make little sense for Sainz to interrupt his upward momentum with Williams to rejoin a team still struggling for competitiveness.
