All you need to know about F1’s new power units

Twelve years is a good run for a set of engine regulations. Having made their debut in 2014, F1’s first genuine generation of hybrid power units took the sport to new levels. They were the most reliable and most economical F1 engines of all time – but also powered the fastest F1 cars of all time. They were arguably the most closely-matched F1 engines of all time, with each manufacturer scoring wins in double-figures… but all things come to pass. A new generation of power units takes over for 2026.
