Hamilton Credits Ferrari For Making Key Changes To Unlock Strong Canadian GP Result

Lewis Hamilton described his second-place finish at the Canadian Grand Prix as the product of significant changes Ferrari has made to accommodate him since his arrival.
The seven-time world champion joined Ferrari at the start of 2025 and has spoken openly about the adjustment process required to get the best from the car.
Hamilton said the team’s willingness to adapt has finally begun to translate into meaningful on-track performance, with Canada representing his strongest result in red so far.
“I felt like we started on the right foot, came with the right attitude and the car really generally felt great,” Hamilton said after the race in Montreal.
His pre-race preparation also differed from usual, with Hamilton opting to skip his standard simulator session in favour of a more data-focused approach heading into the weekend.
“I chose a different set-up this weekend through just ciphering through the data, working really well with my engineer. He’s absolutely awesome and I’m really loving working with him,” Hamilton said.
Hamilton also praised the contribution of his second engineer, crediting that working relationship with helping extract greater performance from the Ferrari throughout the weekend in Canada.
“My number two did a fantastic job this weekend and helped me really pull more performance out of the car, getting into a much sweeter place,” he added.
The Briton highlighted the support of team principal Fred Vasseur as central to the improvements, noting that Vasseur has gone to considerable lengths to help him settle into the team’s working environment.
“Fred has been super supportive and again also moving mountains in order to make me comfortable and it’s finally starting to show in my performance,” Hamilton said.
The second-place finish also represents Ferrari’s best result of the 2025 season to date, giving the Maranello outfit genuine encouragement heading into the next phase of the campaign.
Hamilton acknowledged that several rivals brought significant upgrades to Montreal, including Mercedes, while Ferrari’s major development package had already arrived at the previous round in Miami.
“It’s definitely encouraging given that this weekend, if you look, Mercedes brought a big upgrade, a lot of people brought upgrades here. We brought our big one in Miami,” he noted.
He pointed to the nature of the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve as added context, describing it as a track that prioritises straight-line speed, an area where Ferrari has faced challenges at various points this season.
“Considering this is a real straight-line speed circuit and we just managed to hold on and get this result, that definitely gives me high hopes for what’s ahead,” Hamilton said.
Hamilton stopped short of declaring the team’s struggles resolved, instead calling for continued development work as Ferrari attempts to remain competitive across the remaining rounds of the championship.
“We’ve got hopefully some other bits coming along the way” and “we’ve got to keep pushing and keep trying to extract more,” he concluded, reflecting on the work still ahead.
