Verstappen Had No Idea He Appeared In The Brad Pitt F1 Movie
Four-time Formula 1 world champion Max Verstappen was completely unaware that he had a cameo role in last year’s F1 movie.
The film featured Brad Pitt, Damson Idris and Javier Bardem, and was released last summer to become Pitt’s most financially successful film ever.
The production crew spent time across the 2023 and 2024 F1 seasons filming scenes at real-life race weekends throughout the calendar.
Some of the on-track battles were created by substituting cars involved in actual races with Pitt’s fictional APX GP car.
One such moment came at the Italian Grand Prix, where Pitt’s character Sonny Hayes was shown racing hard against Verstappen at Monza.
When Verstappen finally passed Hayes in the film, he could be seen raising his middle finger toward the APX GP driver.
Hayes responded to the gesture from inside the cockpit, saying: “I deserved that.”
Verstappen only discovered this scene recently while playing games online with friends during a live stream, reacting with total confusion.
When one of his friends quoted the moment to him, Verstappen replied: “We did what?,” and when it was explained again, he simply said: “Huh.”
Verstappen has previously admitted that he has never actually seen the F1 movie, explaining his complete lack of awareness about the scene.
The film surpassed $545 million at the global box office, beating Pitt’s previous most successful film World War Z, which achieved $540 million.
Despite the financial success, the film received mixed reviews from fans, pundits and the F1 drivers who featured in it.
Carlos Sainz questioned the authenticity of the storylines, while many fans pointed to the representation of female characters as a major issue.
Kerry Condon played a character introduced as F1’s first ever female technical director, who then becomes a love interest for Pitt’s character Hayes.
The film did set a record for Apple Studios, becoming their highest-grossing theatrical release of all time despite the widespread criticism it attracted.
