Monaco Grand Prix Shifts To June As F1 Overhauels 2026 Race Calendar

HEADLINE: Monaco Grand Prix Shifts To June As F1 Overhauls 2026 Race Calendar
The Monaco Grand Prix has been moved to a new date in 2026 following a significant overhaul of the Formula 1 race calendar.
The iconic event, which first took place in 1929, remains widely regarded as the jewel in Formula 1’s crown despite its reputation for limited overtaking opportunities.
Monaco has traditionally occupied a late May slot in the annual F1 schedule, but that longstanding arrangement has now changed for the 2026 season.
The reasons behind the date change are twofold, with both sustainability concerns and logistical challenges cited as the driving factors behind the decision.
Previously, teams would travel between continents with enormous amounts of freight, potentially crossing back and forth between Europe and North America in quick succession, which proved exhausting and environmentally damaging.
For the first time, Monaco will not take place in late May and has instead been pushed back to early June, with practice beginning on Friday June 5 and the race taking place on Sunday June 7.
The calendar adjustment allowed F1 teams to keep all of their cargo in North America after the Miami race on May 3 and transport it directly to Montreal for the Canadian Grand Prix.
By consolidating the North American races before returning to Europe, the sport reduces the volume of transatlantic freight movements required across the season.
Spain follows Monaco on the revised schedule, with the Barcelona race taking place on June 12 to 14 at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
Austria is next on the calendar, scheduled for June 26 to 28 at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg, before the British Grand Prix at Silverstone from July 3 to 5.
The second half of the season concludes with Abu Dhabi at Yas Marina Circuit from December 4 to 6, bringing the 2026 championship to a close.
