Juan Pablo Montoya Confirms Mutual Dislike With Martin Brundle After Grid Encounter
F1 legend Juan Pablo Montoya has openly admitted that he does not like Sky Sports broadcaster and former racing driver Martin Brundle.
Montoya made the candid admission while speaking to talkSPORT BET, referencing a recent encounter with Brundle during one of his well-known gridwalks.
Speaking to talkSPORT BET, Montoya said: “Martin Brundle, who has never liked me, and the feeling is mutual, got me in the grid.”
Brundle reportedly approached Montoya on the grid and made a pointed comment about the Colombian’s relationship with Max Verstappen.
Montoya recalled Brundle saying: “I see you have p***ed off Max,” to which Montoya replied: “Nothing new there.”
Brundle raced in Formula 1 between 1984 and 1996 before transitioning into broadcasting, working with the BBC, ITV, and in later years Sky Sports F1.
Montoya himself competed in F1 between 2001 and 2006 for Williams and McLaren, claiming seven grand prix victories during that period.
The comment Brundle made on the grid references reports of an ongoing feud between Montoya and four-time champion Max Verstappen.
However, Montoya was quick to play down any suggestion of a serious dispute with Verstappen, insisting the two have always got along at races.
Montoya said: “No. No, there’s no drama. And if there is, honestly, if you’re angry about that, then you have more issues in your life than you should.”
He added: “I’ve talked to [Max Verstappen] in the past and at races, and actually, we get on really well. We don’t spend time talking to each other, but we say ‘Hi,’ and I say hello to Jos [Verstappen]. We’ve never had any issues, and I don’t think we do now.”
Montoya did, however, take issue with one specific decision made by Verstappen, relating to a car he drove at the Nurburgring.
He said: “I do think, though, it was wrong for him to drive that Mercedes at the Nurburgring. When Ford is putting so much money into the sport at Red Bull, to drive a Mercedes was just wrong.”
