Jos Verstappen Fires Back At Guenther Steiner Over Criticism Of Max

Jos Verstappen has publicly responded to former Haas team principal Guenther Steiner after Steiner questioned the sincerity of Max Verstappen’s complaints about the current F1 regulations.
The exchange stems from Max Verstappen’s repeated criticisms of the new cars introduced this season, which the four-time world champion has described as “not fun” to drive.
At the Canadian Grand Prix, Verstappen went further, stating that racing beyond the end of this season is “not doable” unless significant changes are made to the regulations.
The FIA has announced small tweaks ahead of 2027, but Verstappen has made clear he wants the governing body to go considerably further with its adjustments.
Steiner challenged the authenticity of those complaints on a recent episode of the Red Flags podcast, suggesting Max’s mood regarding the rules is tied directly to his on-track results.
Steiner said: “Max Verstappen was a little bit happier because he was on the podium [in Canada]. I guess if he would have won, he would be really happy, and it would be the best regs ever. That’s just to clarify where we stand there emotionally with Max on the regs.”
Jos Verstappen wasted little time in responding to Steiner’s comments, posting a pointed message directed at the Italian on X.
Jos wrote: “Hi Guenther. I understand why you’re not an F1 team boss anymore. The way you talk.”
Steiner was axed by Haas ahead of the 2024 season, though he previously worked for Red Bull and remains a visible presence in the F1 community through various podcast appearances.
He has since taken on ownership of the Tech3 MotoGP team, a role he assumed last year following his departure from the Formula 1 paddock.
Max Verstappen, who is 28 years old, sits third on the all-time list of race victors and has won four world championships during his time in the sport.
Jos Verstappen, who has his own background in F1, regularly attends grand prix weekends to support his son while also pursuing his own racing activities in rally.
