Oscar Piastri Says Red Bull Interest Is Flattering But Insists He Is Happy At McLaren

McLaren’s Oscar Piastri has spoken publicly about persistent rumours linking him with a move to Red Bull as part of the ongoing F1 silly season.
Reports emerged between the Miami and Canadian Grand Prix that Piastri was Red Bull’s top target to replace Max Verstappen should the four-time champion leave the team.
Verstappen announced his intention to remain in Formula 1 next season during the Canadian Grand Prix weekend but stopped short of confirming his future at Red Bull specifically.
The Dutchman’s contract with Red Bull runs until the end of 2028, though performance clauses within that agreement could allow him to exit earlier if conditions are met.
Dutch media have reported that Verstappen is “seriously considering” retirement due to his dissatisfaction with the new regulations introduced this season.
Should Verstappen leave Red Bull for Mercedes, McLaren, or retire from the sport entirely, the Milton Keynes-based team would need a credible replacement lined up.
Piastri’s own McLaren contract is understood to run until at least the end of 2028, though rumours of interest from Red Bull have continued to circulate through the paddock.
When asked about the reported interest at the Canadian Grand Prix, Piastri said: “There’s obviously not been any discussions or anything but it’s flattering, yes. There’s not really much more than that, really.”
The Australian driver added: “Hopefully it proves my stock as a driver, which is a nice thing, but I’m very happy with where I am.”
Piastri continued by expressing his confidence in McLaren’s ability to compete for the biggest prizes in the sport going forward.
He stated: “I’ve got a lot of confidence in this team that we’re going to be able to win races and hopefully championships in the future, so I’m very happy where I am.”
Speaking separately to Sky Sports F1, Piastri was even more direct, saying: “I’ve got a good relationship with McLaren, so why change?”
