Antonelli Addresses Ferrari Future After Taking Championship Lead With Mercedes

Kimi Antonelli has responded to speculation over a potential move to Ferrari, insisting his loyalty lies firmly with Mercedes for the foreseeable future.
The 19-year-old currently sits at the top of the drivers’ championship standings and is hoping to become Italy’s first drivers’ champion since 1953.
Antonelli has won the last four grands prix consecutively, building a commanding 43-point lead over his Mercedes team-mate George Russell in the title race.
Despite the dominant position of Mercedes in the sport, Antonelli’s Italian heritage has continued to fuel speculation linking him with a future move to Ferrari.
Italian fans are expected to give Antonelli a significant reception at the Italian Grand Prix later in the summer, with many dreaming of a future partnership between the driver and Ferrari.
Antonelli collected the Bandini Trophy last weekend, an award presented to a driver or team for showing commendable performance in motorsport based not solely on results but on character and approach to racing.
He was speaking to Italian media after the ceremony in Brisighella when he addressed the long-standing question about a potential move to the Scuderia.
“Ferrari is a huge team with an incredible following and will remain in history forever,” Antonelli said, before making his current position clear.
“But I am a Mercedes driver, and my goal is to win with Mercedes. They gave me a great opportunity from a young age, supported me throughout my entire journey, and I feel a duty to give my best for this team. Then, we’ll see.”
The comments acknowledge the enormous prestige of Ferrari while firmly reaffirming his commitment to the team that gave him his Formula 1 opportunity.
Whether Antonelli will eventually follow Lewis Hamilton’s path by leaving Mercedes for Ferrari at some point in his career remains a question that only time will answer.
