Ferrari Brings Engine Upgrade And Aero Overhaul To Italian Grand Prix

Ferrari will introduce an ADUO-permitted power unit upgrade at Monza, combining engine gains with aerodynamic updates as the team targets a strong home result.
The upgrade has been cleared after Ferrari was confirmed to be over 4% behind the Additional Development and Upgrade Opportunities benchmark, entitling the team to two upgrades this season.
Ferrari’s engineering department, led by Enrico Gualtieri, has signed off on the new power unit, which features a revised combustion chamber and turbocharger.
The upgraded engine is forecast to deliver an additional 15 horsepower, a figure expected to halve the gap to the Mercedes power unit, currently regarded as the best all-round package in the paddock.
Further performance gains are anticipated from new fuel developed in partnership with Shell, adding another layer of improvement beyond the mechanical changes to the engine itself.
The 067/7 engine, permitted under ADUO regulations, has cleared the reliability threshold across repeated bench tests, giving Ferrari confidence ahead of one of the most important weekends on the calendar.
Ferrari’s engineers have targeted peak power output and a revised torque delivery at Monza, aiming for a better distribution of electrical energy throughout a lap around the high-speed circuit.
The team will also debut a new and more aerodynamically-efficient version of its Macarena rear wing, a specification not used at previous events, alongside the blown exhaust system, which may be further tweaked to reduce drag.
Ferrari will additionally run a special livery at Monza to celebrate Michael Schumacher’s success with the team, adding a sentimental dimension to what is already a critical weekend for the Scuderia.
The Italian outfit is pushing hard to reignite its title challenge after failing to reach the podium in the last two rounds, leaving Ferrari 87 points behind Mercedes in the constructors’ championship.
McLaren has outscored Ferrari across those same two rounds, adding further urgency to a team that can ill afford more lost ground at its home circuit.
Ferrari has received an indirect boost with Mercedes confirming that Kimi Antonelli will take a back-of-the-grid penalty at Monza after exhausting his permitted power unit allocation due to reliability issues earlier in the season.
George Russell is not expected to receive a penalty at Monza, with Baku cited as a more likely candidate for a similar grid penalty given comparable track characteristics.
Monza has proven difficult territory for Ferrari in recent history, with the team recording just three victories across the last 19 Italian Grand Prix weekends, making Sunday’s race a significant opportunity to reverse that trend.
